Illuminated manuscripts embellished the text with highly stylized initial letters, decorative borders, and illustrations. The earliest illuminated texts date from AD 400-500. The practice of illuminating manuscripts continued until the 16th century.
A leaf from a Latin Bible containing Deuteronomy 29:1 -31:30, and a leaf from a hand-written Bible contains a portion of the Epistle to the Hebrews. The text runs from the end of chapter 5 through the beginning of chapter 9.
