Military Bibles

All of these Bibles were associated in some way with the military. From the very beginning of America's history, Bibles were important to military officers and soldiers. In fact, the Bible of the American Revolution from 1781-82 was actually proposed to be given to all the troops in the American Revolution and George Washington loved the idea, except the Bible was published the year after the Revolution was over. Across US history troops have always been given Bibles & copies of Bibles.

One Bible in particular was a steel plated Bible from WWII. Engraved on the outside of this Bible were the words "May this keep you safe from harm." This was the New Testament but with a steel cover and literally there are accounts of this Bible having saved the lives of soldiers. They would keep it in their left breast pocket & there are actually some of these Bibles that contain a bullet that hit the steel plate and saved the life of the soldier.
