This is the Constitution for the American Bible Society, the first National Bible Society in America. The first Bible Society in America had been formed in 1809 in Philadelphia, but for the next 8 years, all Bible Societies in America were either local or state. This was a first attempt for all Bible societies to come together and have a National Bible Society, The American Bible Society. They had become the largest distributor of Bibles in the world. This Bible is from 1817 and it was the first Bible to be published by the American Bible Society and distributed across the United States. The American Bible Society was formed by a number of our founding fathers that signed our documents. These men understood how important the Bible was for America.
