Baskerville / Birmingham (1769/1771)

Six years after his Cambridge edition, John Baskerville printed another edition of the King James Version. The Old Testament is dated to 1769, while the New Testament is from 1771. Like the Cambridge version, this version sought to bring the English of the KJV in line with contemporaneous usage.

Although copies of the KJV printed and sold today are often referred to informally as 1611 King James Bibles, the version being followed is Baskerville's Birmingham edition, which became the standard text. The original 1611 edition has only been reproduced in facsimile editions since the middle of the 18th century.
